Zamalek have signed Cameroonian midfielder Alexis Mondemo on a three-and-half-year contract from Tunisia’s Club Africain for $ 1.5 million.
“Club Africain will send us Mondomo’s international licence on Sunday so we can register him in our African and domestic squads,” Zamalek’s board member Abdullah George was quoted as saying on a television program.
The 25-year-old midfielder was part of Club Africain’s squad that reached the 2011 African Confederation Cup final.
“I promise to do my best to help Zamalek win trophies again,” Mondomo told reporters after signing the contract on Sunday.
He will undergo a medical on Sunday then travel to Tunisia to finalise personal affairs before arriving in Cairo on Thursday.
Under the helm of coach Hassan Shehata, Zamalek are working to end their seven-year Egyptian Premier League title drought by adding to their squad during the January transfer window. The club also signed ENNPI’s midfielder Islam Awad on Saturday and are on the track to land Gouna’s defensive midfielder Nour El-Sayed.
The Cairo giants are third in the 19-team league table with 26 points, four behind arch-rivals Ahly and five adrift of surprise leaders El-Hodoud.
