Egypt's rising football powerhouse Pyramids FC have signed Ecuador's international striker Jhon Cifuente, the league's top spending club announced on Thursday.

The financial details of the transfer and the length of the contract have not been disclosed yet.

The 26-year-old prolific scorer will join the team in a transfer from the Ecuadorian side Universidad Catolica, replacing the club's outgoing Brazilian striker Carlos Eduardo who left Pyramids FC on Thursday to join Brazilian giants Palmeiras.

Cifuente scored 37 goals in 42 games in the Ecuadorian league this season, and twice in four appearances with his national team.

He will start his mission with Pyramids FC on the first day of the new year when the winter transfer window begins.

Cifuente becomes the Pyramids' fourth winter signing after Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel Egyptian striker Amr Marei, Egypt's Maqassa Burkinabe's winger Eric Traore, Palestinian forward Hamed Hemdan.

He will be the fifth foreign-based player in Pyramids squad, thus forcing the club to offload one of their current five foreign players, per the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) regulations.

Pyramids FC curently have on the roster Brazilian duo Keno and Rodriguinho Marinho, Nigerian midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu and the Burkinabe Traore.

Palestinians and Syrians are considered nationals by the EFA.

Since a takeover by Saudi sports minister Turki al-Sheikh last summer, the formerly known Assiouty Sport has splashed cash to build a formidable squad that can compete for the league's tropphy against the league's historic dominant clubs Ahly and Zamalek.

Pyramids FC flexed their financial muscles in signing more than 20 well-known players, breaking all the domestic transfer records with the Keno deal alone costing a reported fee of $10 million (EGP 180 million).

The club is currently coached by Egypt's iconic striker Hossam Hassan.

They lie second on the Egyptian league table with 29 points, six behind leaders Zamalek.

Pyramids FC players have scored 24 goals in 14 matches in the league so far, with three games in hand including one against each Ahly and Zamalek.
