Egypt is likely to try new faces in their final African Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger next month, team director Ihab Leheita said on Tuesday.

The Pharaohs, who have already booked a place in Africa's flagship tournament with one match to spare in their qualifying group, are second with 12 points, on level with leaders Tunisia who enjoy a better goal difference.

Egypt would have qualified for the Nations Cup anyway after the country was granted the tournament's hosting rights last month.

Leheita told ON Sport FM that that Egypt's Mexican coach Javier Aguirre was considering resting some key players and giving fresh faces who shone in the Egyptian league a chance to prove their worth on the international level.

"The game against Niger is of no big importance because we have already qualified and we also won the tournament's hosting rights," he said.

“Aguirre has been recently keen to follow all the league games as he is planning to field new players in the upcoming game against Niger."

Leheta also said Aguirre has yet to settle on the players who will be dropped from the Niger game.
