The Confederation of African Football sent another letter to the Egyptian Football Association requesting they move Ahly’s Champions League quarter-final and Zamalek's Confederation Cup quarter-final games from Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium to another venue, the EFA announced on Sunday.

The pitch of the Alexandria-based stadium looked to be in very poor condition again during the recent Cairo derby between Ahly and Zamalek, which finished in a goalless draw.

"We received another letter from the CAF asking to change the venue for Ahly and Zamalek’s African games that are scheduled to be played at Borg El-Arab Stadium," EFA Competitions Committee boss Amer Hussien told a local television programme late on Sunday.

"I wonder from those letters. This condition is very rare and it hasn’t happened previously," Hussien added.

"If we followed the same principle with the African stadiums the result will be clear as they all suffer from the poor conditions," he said.

"We see the poor condition of the African venues when we participate in the Confederation Cup and the preliminary rounds in the Champions League.

"I can't find any explanation for what happened, as the EFA should take action over the situation."  

"We are not involved in choosing the teams' game venues,” he stated.

Last month, CAF sent a first letter to the EFA requesting they move Ahly’s Champions League quarter-final and the Confederation Cup quarter-final featuring Zamalek from Borg El-Arab Stadium to another venue due to the poor condition of the pitch.

Egypt's Ahly will face Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the CAF Champions League quarter-final and Zamalek will take on Moroccan side Hassania Agadir in the same stage but in the Confederation Cup.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for the first half of April.
