Mamelodi Sundowns’ manager Pitso Mosimane insisted that his side had not booked a place in the CAF Champions League semis despite a comforting first leg 5-0 win over their Egyptian rivals Ahly at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.
The South African club, who were crowned African Champions in 2016 and who have clinched a record of eight local titles since the introduction of the Premier Division in 1996, will take on Ahly in the quarter-final second leg in Alexandria on Saturday.
“I hope we keep our integrity. I hope we keep the result. I hope we protect the big work we have done. We don't have a guarantee but it's all in the mind,” Mosimane was quoted as saying by South African website kickoff.com.
Ahly are left with their back against the wall knowing that they have to score at least five times while keeping their sheet clean if they want to keep their qualification hopes alive.
However, Sundowns’ 54-year-old tactician does not miss a chance to mention that the game is still difficult in an attempt to keep his players wary as well as focused.
"It's going to be a difficult game, we need to fight fire with fire," he said.
"If we lose, we will lose if these guys are really good, not because of attitude and mentality. I will never let that go,” Mosimane concluded.
