Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny and German centre back Shkodran Mustafi will leave Arsenal during the ongoing summer transfer window, which closes on Monday, Arsenal coach Unai Emery has said.

Midfielder Elneny, who is a target for Galatasaray, has made just 30 league starts in four seasons, while Mustafi has failed to join the team's starting lineups since the start of the season.

"Elneny and Mustafi know their position in the squad and really I want the players to be happy here, I want the players to be protagonists here," Emery was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

"Last year with Mustafi and Mo, when they didn’t play they weren’t happy and I spoke with them a lot of times last year and this pre-season and I think it is positive for them to leave and sign for another team where they can be protagonists and be happy and continue their careers," he added.

"They are very big players but for one circumstance or another, they are going to have less chances to show their capacity or to be happy with us and the minutes they play in matches."

"But they know the situation and really, really I am wishing the best for them and I think now the best for them is to be protagonists in another team and sign and to get another challenge for them with another team," he said.

El-Neny, 27, joined Arsenal's pre-season preparatory camp late, after his participation with the national team during the recent Egypt-hosted Africa Cup of Nations, where the Pharaohs were eliminated in the round of 16.

He made 17 appearances with the Gunners in all competitions last season.

The former Arab Contractors player joined Arsenal during the winter transfer market of 2015-2016 from Swiss club FC Basel.

Arsenal ended the 2018-2019 season in fifth place in the Premier League.

Galatasaray were crowned both Turkish League and Cup winners last season.

Arsenal have started the new season strongly, winning two victories in the two games played so far.
