Zamalek's shot-stopper Mahmoud Gennesh resumed full training after a lengthy injury-lay off on Friday, giving his team a timely goalkeeping boost.

Gennesh, who played an instrumental role in helping Zamalek win the African Confederation Cup and Egypt Cup last season, has been out of action since rupturing an Achilles tendon in June last year while on international duty.

He picked up the injury during a training session for Egypt before a meeting with Uganda in the Pharaohs' last-group stage game at the African Cup of Nations on home soil.

Following his injury, Zamalek signed two goalkeepers in Ismaily's Mohamed Awad and Smouha's Mohamed Abou-Gabal to fill the void.

Zamalek started the season with Awad as their regular goalkeeper, but have recently dropped him in favour  of Abou-Gabal after the former committed a series of costly errors.

Gennesh is expected to return to his regular place between the sticks after recovering from his injury.

Zamalek have made a disappointing start to the Egyptian Premier League season, drawing three times and losing twice in their first 10 games.

They lie fourth in the table with 18 points, nine behind leaders Ahly, who have a game in hand.
