Liverpool's Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Salah celebrates scoring their second goal during the English Premier League football match between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield stadium in Liverpool, north west England on January 19, 2020.AFP
Mohamed Salah thought he would continue his scoring duck against Manchester United before finally ending his drought with a stoppage-time goal as Liverpool won 2-0 in the Premier League Sunday.
Virgil van Dijk also scored a first-half opener as Liverpool stretched their commanding lead at the top of the Premier League to 16 points and advantage over Manchester United to 30.
Salah had not find the net against United since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer of 2017.
On Sunday, he missed a sitter early in the second half before making amends in superb fashion following a brilliant solo effort.
The 27-year-old controlled a punt from keeper Alisson and ran half the length of the pitch to hold off his challenger and drill past United keeper David de Gea.
"The thought came to my mind that I would not score today but I came back mentally, I prepared myself, to keep calm," the Egypt forward told Sky Sports after the game.
"But even if I didn’t score today, it doesn’t matter – as long as the team keep winning, I’m fine with that.
"We just need to keep focused on each game. We don’t have to think now we've won the Premier League. No, we need to take it game by game, that’s the only way we can win the Premier League."
Salah took his tally to 11 Premier League goals in 19 appearances this season.
