The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Saturday the postponement of the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup semifinal games until further notice due to the growing concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.

Football activities have come to halt around the world since March and most countries have shut down their training facilities to curb the spread of the virus.

The CAF Emergency Committee held a meeting on Saturday and decided to postpone Total CAF Champions League and Total CAF Confederation Cup semifinal matches, both legs earlier scheduled for 1-3 May and 8-10 May 2020, respectively.

The committee also decided to postpone the FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup Qualifiers that were initially scheduled for 1-3 May and 15-17 May 2020 because of the same reason.

"A new schedule will be announced in due time," read a statement by CAF on its official website.

The CAF have already called off the March qualifiers for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, and may also delay its upcoming fixtures until summer.

"The CAF is monitoring the situation closely and working with the relevant authorities such as the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the impact of the virus on the continent," the statement added.

Egyptian giants Ahly and Zamalek are set to play Morocco's heavyweights Wydad and Raja respectively in the Champions League, while Pyramids FC, Egypt’s rising power, are set to play Horoya of Guinea in the Confederation Cup semis. RS Berkane and Hassania Agadir will face off in a Moroccan derby in the second leg.
