Ahly’s playmaker Saleh Gomaa will be rejoining the team’s trainings starting Tuesday despite the club’s previous announcement coach Rene Weiler said the player isn't welcomed anymore, football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz said on Monday.
“Gomaa will rejoin the collective training sessions starting Tuesday after he haf undergone an intensive rehabilitation programme in the last period,” Abdel-Hafiz was quoted as saying by the club’s official website, providing no further details about the player’s future.
Late in January, Weiler said Gomaa will not have a place in the current squad, wishing him a better chance with another team.
"Each player has two sides, technical and mental. While Saleh Gomaa has the technical part, he lacks the mental one, which is related to concentration, as he was repeatedly fined by the team management," Weiler said at the time.
Weiler’s announcement came after Gomaa’s statements; saying he was suffering under Weiler, who always omits him from the team's games despite his performance during trainings.
After failing to depart during the winter transfer window, Gomaa, who will turn 27 in August, trained individualy before the league suspension in mid-March due to the coronavirus crisis.
Ahly is currently preparing for the anticipated Egyptian Premier League resumption after almost three months of suspension.
Being known for his brilliant skills, Gomaa hasn't been such a committed player since joining the Cairo giants five years ago.
The gifted playmaker made 69 appearances with the Reds, scoring 12 goals and making 13 assists since joining the team in 2015.
His spell at Ahly has been marred by disciplinary problems. Ahly fined him repeatedly this season after missing several training sessions or showing up late. Moreover, he did not make any appearance with the team during the ongoing season.
Ahead of the current league suspension, Ahly are in the driver’s seat of the Egyptian Premier league, with a full mark of 49 points after playing 17 games so far this season.
