Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hailed the display of Egypt's Mohamed Elneny in the team's 3-0 victory over Fulham in the Premier League opener, saying the midfielder only needs a "little bit of belief".

Elneny impressed in the heart of Arsenal's midfield, thanks to a 93 percent passing accuracy rate and four successful defensive interceptions, more than any player on the pitch.

The 28-year-old's future is uncertain at the Emirates after he spent the last season on loan at Turkish side Besiktas.

However, he has produced a couple of superb displays since his return, having also helped Arsenal win the Community Shield following a shootout victory over Premier League holders Liverpool last month.

"I really like Mo and what he brings to the squad, in terms of his personality as well," Arteta said on Arsenal's official website following the win over Fulham.

"At a football level, I think he needs a little bit of belief. He has some doubts about whether we can trust him or not. I've had a lot of conversations with him, he fully deserves his chance.

"He trains every day with the best spirit. He wants to learn and he is performing really well."
