Time may have finally come for Ahly coach Rene Weiler to do some rotation as the newly-crowned Egyptian champions take on second-from-bottom FC Masr on Wednesday.

The Swiss boss has largely kept faith with the same starting crop throughout the season as his side romped to a fifth consecutive league triumph last week, wrapping up the title with six rounds left.

After being crowned champions, Ahly produced a couple of subdued performances and were held to two consecutive draws by Ittihad and Maqassa for the first time this season.

Ahly's form may have caused some concern for the club's demanding supporters, who have their eyes set on their primary target of seeing their team end a seven-year wait for an African Champions League trophy.

But to win a record-extending ninth Champions League title, Weiler may need to freshen up his exhausted outfit amid fixture congestion in the premier domestic competition. The Red Devils face Morocco's Wydad in a mouthwatering two-legged semi-final next month.

Weiler has left three regulars out of his squad for the FC Masr game, with defensive midfielder Hamdi Fathi, playmaker Magdi Afsha and Angolan winger Geraldo given some time off.

FC Masr are facing an uphill climb to stay in the Premier League in their first season in the top flight.

They will need to at least share honours with Ahly to keep alive their slim chances of avoiding relegation as they sit second from bottom on 20 points, eight adrift of the drop zone.
