In form Striker Mostafa Mohamed scored a goal on the 75th minute, earning Zamalek a point during a shaky performance that resulted in a 1-1 draw with Pyramids FC at the Air Defense Stadium on Thursday.
The Cairo giants looked like they were about to suffer their first defeat in the season, but the international striker stunned the hosts by leveling the score with 15 minutes remaining.
The game was very tough, as Pyramids FC were looking to bounce-back from their stunning defeat in the league opener against Ittihad of Alexandria last week, while Zamalek aimed to maintain their wining start after their 2-0 victory over Arab Contractors.
Both sides were very cautious during the first half as they were content with sharing possession in the midfield without posing a real threat to each other.
The only dicey moment came just before the break when Tarek Taha made a perfect curling shot from a free kick and hit the bar of Zamalek’s Keeper Mohamed Abou Gabal.
The second half was different, as Pyramids FC intensified their attack and got a chance to score on the hour-mark, but Zamalek’s defence cleared the ball.
Seven minutes later, substitute Ahmed El-Sheikh scored for Pyramids after meeting an inviting cross from veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Saed and firing it home.
Zamalek — who produced a sloppy performance during the first hour — reacted quickly, as Striker Mostafa Mohamed escaped his marker to level the score with a nice volley in the 75th minute.
Substitute Winger Mohamed Ounajem had the chance to score the winner for Zamalek three minutes later after receiving a nice pass from Mahmoud 'Shikaballa' Abdel-Razek that cleared him for a one-on-one with Pyramids’ goalie, but the Moroccan winger surprisingly squandered the occasion, as Pyramids’ keeper collected the ball easily.
In the 85th minute, Pyramids’ skipper responded with a nice curling shot, but his effort went wide.
One minute later, Pyramids’ Keeper Sherif Ekrami denied a well-placed shot from Zamalek Tunisian Midfielder Ferjani Sassi with a heroic save.
Zamalek are now third in the league table with four points, while Pyramids FC are 12th with a single point from two games.
The White Knights will face Ahly in the coming game in a Cairo derby at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium on Monday 28 December.
