Egypt's Zamalek have lodged an appeal to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the recent suspension of key striker Mostafa Mohamed, the club announced on Sunday.
Late on Friday, the African football governing body suspended Zamalek’s hitman Mohamed and the club’s former striker Kabongo Kasongo, alongside Ahly’s winger Hussein El-Shahat for four matches each over incidents that followed the Champions League final in Cairo last November.
"The club lodged an appeal to CAF to reduce the suspension of Mostafa Mohamed especially as the team was obliged to miss the first two matches of round 32 after the withdrawal of our opponent Gazelle FC of Chad," reads a statement on Zamalek's official website.
Ahly won a record-extending ninth Champions League title after defeating Cairo's arch-rivals Zamalek 2-1 in the final at Cairo International Stadium on 27 November.
CAF said in a statement on Friday that its Disciplinary Board met on 19 January regarding the incidents that followed the game.
Zamalek's Mohamed and Ahly's El-Shahat were found guilty of exchanging kicks and generating a scrum between the rest of the staff and players on both sides.
Furthermore, Zamalek was fined $10,000 for the behaviour of its players.
