Ahly's defender Wael Gomaa says he is unlikely to play the club's coming CAF Champions League group stage clash with DR Congo’s TP Mazembe on 8 July.

The veteran stopper was continuing his rehabilitation for a calf injury during the team’s training camp in Turkey, but he believes he is not ready yet for the game.

"I am getting better gradually, but I don't think that I will be ready for the Mazembe clash," Gomaa declared in an interview with the club's TV channel at the Istanbul airport as the team was returning to Cairo Saturday.

"The training camp was perfect and I hope the players show how much they benefited from it during the coming matches.

"I still have a week to recover and I will do my best to regain my full fitness through the 20 days between Mazembe match and the next clash with Zamalek," added the 36-year-old player.

The Red Devils were also drawn in Group B with bitter rivals Zamalek and Bechem Chelsea of Ghana.
