Ramy Ashour and David Palmer during the quarter final
Egyptian champions Ramy Ashour and Amr Shabana have qualified for the semi-final of JP Morgan Tournament of Champions at Grand Central Terminal in New York, United States.
In the quarter finals, the second-seeded Ashour needed 43 minutes to beat his Australian opponent David Palmer (No. 16) 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-6 and 11-8).
Meanwhile the world’s fifth Shabana defeated Dutch champion Laurens Jan Anjema 3-1 (11-7, 11-9, 11-8 and 11-8).
In the same tournament, the ninth top seed, Egyptian Mohamed El-Shorbagy, is out after he was defeated 3-0 by Englishman James Willstrop (11-8, 11-7 and 11-8).
Ashour will play against Willstrop, and Shabana will meet Englishman Nick Matthew (No. 1) after defeating his partner and training friend Peter Parker (No. 8), 11-9, 11-4 and 11-6.
