Ahly boss Hossam El-Badry said on Sunday he is satisfied that his team has become "one of the best four clubs in the world" after they finished fourth at the Club World Cup on Sunday.
Ahly slumped to a 2-0 loss to Mexico's Monterrey in the third-place playoff to miss out on a chance to clinch their second bronze medal in the world competition.
"Ahly's players should be proud for being among the best four clubs in the World," El-Badry was quoted as saying by Ahram Sports on Sunday.
"Our bad luck during Monterrey's clash was the main reason for the loss. We wasted many goal-scoring chances which would have been enough to give us a comfortable win. I think we were not lucky during this game.
"Winning the Champions League and finishing fourth four in the Club World club are great achievements, given the difficult circumstances which hit Egyptian football this year," he added.
The Egyptian Premier League has been suspended since February's Port Said disaster, forcing Ahly to play the majority of their Champions League behind closed doors due to security reasons.
"I want to thank the players for their efforts, they produced excellent performances this year and they deserve to be congratulated," El-Badry concluded.
