Ahly have identified Zimbabwe striker Edward Sadomba as one of their targets in the January transfer window, the club said on Wednesday.

“Coach Hossam El-Badry has discussed with the football committee the potential targets for the coming period,” Ahly said on their official website.

“El-Badry wants to sign a midfielder, striker and top class goalkeeper ... the nominations include Edward Sadomba.”

The Red Devils have recently accepted an offer from Saudi Arabia’s Hajer to sign Ivorian striker Oussou Konan on a six-month loan deal. Konan has failed to establish himself since joining the club in the summer of 2011.

Sadomba, who plays for Sudanese side Al-Hilal, finished this year’s CAF Confederation Cup as the joint top scorer with five goals. He was also the Champions League top scorer last year.

El-Badry is rotating his strikers after none of them proved reliable to shoulder the goal-scoring burdens. Ahly’s squad includes four frontmen, including Egyptian internationals Emad Meteb and Mohamed Nagy ‘Geddo’.

With the Egyptian Premier League unlikely to start anytime soon, Ahly will not play any competitive games until next year when they face Congo’s Leopards in the African Super Cup in February, having won a record-extending seventh Champions League title last month.
