Egypt threw away a four-goal lead at halftime to draw 24-24 with North African rivals Algeria in their third game of the World Championship on Tuesday.

The Pharaohs had the upper hand in the first half but could not maintain their 16-12 lead, as Algeria roared back after the break to secure a share of spoils.

Egypt's Ahmed Al-Ahmar was the liveliest performer, causing constant troubles to Algeria.

The result put Egypt, who lost their first two games to Hungary and Spain, in fourth place of Group D. They are ahead of Algeria on goal difference.

Egypt next face Croatia on Thursday. The first four teams in each group will qualify to the next round.
