Defending champions Ahly continued their recent fine run with an easy 2-0 victory over Gouna that left them join top of Group A in the Egyptian Premier League.

Surprisingly relying on an offside trap in the early stages, a helpless Gouna side were punished with two early goals from Ahly's attacking duo El-Sayed Hamdy and Emad Meteb.

Ahly, who recovered from a poor league start to record two consecutive wins, have 15 points from seven games, level on points with ENPPI who played a game more.

The winners of Groups A and B will advance to play a mini-league with only home fixtures to determine the champion.

Hamdy opened the scoring after 14 minutes when he ran onto a deft through pass from playmaker Abdallah El-Said to round the advancing keeper and slot home into an empty net.

In a carbon copy move two minutes later, Meteb broke clear to notch home with aplomb and leave Gouna with an uphill climb.

Ahly eased off after taking a comfortable lead but Gouna failed to take advantage as they were only restricted to some tame efforts in a dull second half.
