Egypt goalkeeping coach Zaki Abdel-Fattah has hailed young keeper Ahmed El-Shennawy for his outstanding performance during the Pharaohs' 2-0 friendly win over Uganda on Monday.

"El-Shennawy has delivered a great performance and this proves the technical staff were right to select him," Abdel-Fattah told Ahram Sport after the game.

"He is a talented and experienced young goalie and Egypt can depend on him in the upcoming crucial matches," he added.

The Pharaohs, who are competing for their first qualification ticket to the World Cup since 1990, are playing Ghana in Kumasi on 15 October, in the first leg of the World Cup playoff.

"The three goalies [El-Shennawy, Sherif Ekrami and Mohamed Sobhi] have been given full opportunities and all have participated in previous games."

Last month, long-time Egypt keeper Essam El-Hadary, 40, said he felt neglected and criticised the preferance for young goalies ahead of crucial matches.
