Moroccan team Raja Casablanca have officially appointed Tunisian Faouzi Benzarti as the team's new head coach to replace axed Mohamed Fakhir.

"Raja Casablanca have sealed a deal with Benzarti, who will arrive in Morocco next Monday to sign the contract," read a statement on the club's official website.

Casablanca sacked coach Mohamed Fakhir just two weeks before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco because of the team's lack of good results.

The 63-year-old Benzarti started his career as head coach in 1979 with US Monastir before he moved to lead Etoile du Sahel and then Club Africain.

He returned to Etoile du Sahel, US Monastir and then Club Africain in 2013.

The Moroccan side Casablanca had asked Tunisia coach Nabil Maaloul to take on the job, he refused the offer.

The North African team then had to choose between Benzarti and Egypt's Hassan Shehata.

"We had a shortlist of two coaches. They are Hassan Shehata and Faouzi Benzarti," Casablanca director Salaheddine Bassir was quoted as saying on Supersport.
