Ghana midfielder Michael Essien seems on his way out of Premier League club Chelsea after been left warming the bench for most of the season.

The 31-year-old midfielder who joined the Blues in 2005 was a key element for the Londoners during their golden era, claiming a host of titles including a Champions League trophy in 2012 and two Premier League titles in 2006 and 2010.

However, the past three years of his career have been plagued by a series of serious injuries that made him lose his place in the starting eleven.

The Ghana captain has only played four league games so far this season and he has revealed recently that he would be open to a move as he seeks more playing time.

Reports in the Italian media and sports network Eurosport have suggested that Italian giants AC Milan may be interested in signing him on-loan to boost the team that has been struggling this campaign.

He would also be eligible to play in the Champions League as Chelsea omitted him from their European squad because of his injury.

However, coach Jose Mourinho denied on Friday during a press conference he had yet received any offers for the player, without stating his stand towards it.
