Milan vice-president and CEO Adriano Galliani says the Italian giants will investigate their loss of the most successful club in the world title to Egyptian giants Ahly.

Ahly was given their sixth African Super Cup title on Thursday, which came as a blow for Milan, whose officials are regularly heard to claim that the Italian club's 18 international trophies make it the most successful club worldwide.

The African Super Cup trophy was Ahly's nineteenth international trophy, pushing the Egyptian favourites to the top, in terms of accolades won.

Ahly won eight Champions League titles, four African Winners Cups, six African Super Cups and one Afro-Asian Cup. 

"We will evaluate whether their trophies are all approved. If we find that this is true we will still remain the most titled club in Europe," Galliani was quoted as saying by Italian daily Corriere della Sera.

Argentina’s Boca Juniors now share the same number of international trophies as Milan, while Independiente and Real Madrid are on 16, and Barcelona 14.
