Zamalek have terminated the contract of coach Hossam Hassan because of the team's poor run.

The former Egypt icon, who was appointed on 30 July, lost the Super Cup to Ahly and collected only five points after three league games.

The board had an urgent meeting on Thursday and decided to put an end to his term naming Mohamed Salah as interim coach.

"I am really worried for the team's future under Hossam Hassan. I don't attend the matches not only because I am disappointed but also because I am disgusted by the team's performance, despite the fact that all of the board attends," club president Mortada Mansour said on Egyptian television on Wednesday.

The Cairo giants went on a signing-spree last summer bringing in 17 players to end a 10-year drought as they have not been crowned champions since 2004.

Reports in the media have suggested the names of Brazilian coach Paulo Campos, Paulo Duarte from Portugal and Frenchman Denis Lavagne as possible replacement.
