African Cup holders Ahly set date for Esperance showdown

The Egyptian giants have picked 28 June for their African Confederation Cup group stage kick-off against Tunisia's Esperance.

"Football Director Wael Gomaa has informed the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) competition committee with the date to coordinate with the CAF," Ahly’s official website stated Wednesday.

Titleholders Ahly are competing in Group A with Esperance Stade Malien of Mali and Tunisian sides Esperance and Etoile Sahel.

They qualified for the group stage by defeating Tunisian Club Africain on Sunday.

Their Egyptian rivals Zamalek are playing in Group B, competing with Tunisian Sfaxien, South Africa's Orlando Pirates and AC Leopards of DR Congo.
