Ahly coach Fathi Mabrouk has praised the team's new signing Ghanaian attacker John Antwi, saying the striker can make the change in the Red Devils frontline next season.

Early last week, Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab announced that Egyptian champions Ahly had reached an agreement to buy the remaining period of the contract of their Ghanaian striker John Antwi for $1 million, starting next summer.

Antwi, 22, spent two years in the Egyptian league playing for Ismaily, scoring 28 goals, before joining Saudi's Al-Shabab for more than $2 million last winter but he failed to book a regular place in the starting lineup.

Ahly have not officially announced the deal details yet but they are expected to reveal it as soon as the player puts pen to paper.

"Antwi is a good addition to the team, as we all know his brilliant qualifications since he was wearing Ismaily jersey," Mabrouk told reporters after Sunday's training.

"He has the striker's qualifications that Ahly need," the Ahly coach concluded.

Antwi started his senior football career with Ghanaian side Eleven Wise Sekondi in 2011 before joining the Egyptian Premier League outfit Ismaily in December 2012.

Before joining Ismaily, Antwi had trials at Ahly and Beni Suef Telephones but they were not perceptive enough to lure him.
