After the team's poor results in the Egyptian Premier League, Smouha has sacked their coach Helmy Toulan just six months after his appointment.

Toulan succeeded to lead the Alexandrian side to the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time in the team's history but the poor results in the Egyptian Premier League forced the management to sack the coach.

The Alexandria side, who finished as runners up in the Egyptian Premier League last season, are suffering from poor results during the current campaign as they are 12th on the leadership table with 47 points, just before the relegation zone.

Smouha management refused to meet Toulan's demands by signing new players to rebuild the team's squad for the African tournament as well as the next season of the domestic league.

Toulan was named as Smouha coach last winter replacing French coach Lavagne.

Last year’s dark horse will play Moghreb Tétouan in the first round of the CAF Champions League group stage on Sunday as they make their first ever appearance on the continental stage.
