Zambian international midfielder Felix Katongo arrived in Cairo on Monday to spend a few days trying out before joining Zamalek.

“Katongo is already in Cairo and he will train with the team starting from today under the supervision of coach Hossam Hassan, who will sign him if he is convinced by his performance,” a statement on the club’s official website read on Monday.

Katongo signed a two-year contract with Libyan giants Al-Ittihad in summer 2010 but is now seeking a move away because of the turmoil in the country.

The 27-year-old international midfielder – the younger brother of former Zambia skipper Christopher Katongo – hasn’t yet hit fame at club level as his spells with Forest Rangers, Green Buffaloes (Zambia), Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Petro Atlético (Angola), Rennes B and LB Châteauroux (France) were a real deceit.

He hopes to impress at Zamalek, who are looking for experienced and talented players to help the team recover its glory days and end a three-year trophy-less run.
