Haras El-Hodoud players celebrate their 2010 Egypt Cup victory
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) board announced its intention to resume the Egypt Cup next September after the association had taken an earlier decision to cancel it following the January 25 Revolution.
“We are going to resume the cup’s tournament to avoid the expected financial losses of the cancellation decision,” EFA chief executive Ehab Saleh told Ahram Online on Tuesday.
“The resumption date will be determined later by the competitions committee, but it will certainly be scheduled before the start of theleague’s new season,” he confirmed.
What’s more, EFA spokesman Azmy Megahed has denied all recent reports about the possible cancellation of the relegation system this season. Egyptian clubs suffered after all football activities were halted in Egypt for six months following the 18-day uprising.
“The military council decided to resume the competition with all its previous regulations,” Megahed explained.
Facing the sure threat of relegation, Ittihad of Alexandria, Smouha and Arab Contractors have had their fates decided with two matches to go.
