Key Zamalek centre back Ali Gabr will be out for up to two weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during the 3-2 Egypt Super Cup defeat to Ahly on Thursday.
After starting the game against Ahly, Gabr was forced off the pitch after 20 minutes and was substituted with Burkina Faso defender Mohamed Koffi.
Gabr, who featured for Zamalek in 33 games last season, was diagnosed with an ankle sprain – which is set to keep him out of the 2015-2016 league opener against Wadi Degla and the following week’s fixture against Aswan.
Zamalek are now likely to field the centre-back pairing of Koffi and Ahmed Dwidar, who featured for the full 90 minutes in the last two games against Etoile du Sahel in the Confederation Cup semi-final return leg and Ahly.
