An Egyptian court sentenced today Zamalek stars Mido and Shikabala to a one week in prison for assaulting three students, following their appeal against a one-month jail verdict.

Mido and Shikabala, who were involved in numerous disciplinary problems during their career, declined to attend a public prosecution hearing over the incident, but appealed the court’s initial ruling.

They weren’t reprieved, however, after the court hit them with a one-week prison sentence on Saturday.

The prosecutor general said three students sought to take pictures with Mido and Shikabala. The former accepted their request but the latter refused, which sparked a war of words that developed into a melee.

Both players were convicted for assaulting the three students and damaging their car.

Mido moved to Zamalek last January after ending an 11-year stint in European football. He has yet to make an appearance on the green since rejoining his boyhood team.

He was not eligible to play in the second half of last season due to an administrative error the club made when registering him in their squad. He remains out of favour this term due to weight and fitness problems.

Shikabala is Zamalek’s undisputed number one, but his progress is often hindered by commitment and disciplinary problems.
