Egypt’s Ahly will start its African Champions League campaign in March 2017, the Cairo giants announced on Saturday.

“CAF have informed us officially of the dates of the new African Champions League season, which will start in February,” Ahly said in a statement via its official website.

“The first leg of the preliminary round will be played on 10, 11 or 12 February, while the return match will be on 17, 18 or 19 of the same month.”

“The round of 32 matches will start with the first leg matches to be played on 10, 11 or 12 March, while the return games will be on 17, 18 or 19 of the same month.”

“The group stage matches will start on 12, 13 and 14 May,” the statement concluded.

Ahly will participate in Africa’s most prestigious club tournament directly from round of 32 as the Egyptian Premier League title holders.

Champions Ahly currently lead the Egyptian League table with 15 points after winning the club’s first five matches so far.

Record eight-time CAF Champions League title-holders Ahly last won the tournament in 2013 after beating South Africa’s Orlando Pirates 3-1 on aggregate in the final.
