Egyptian side Masry lost 1-0 to Nigeria's Ifeanyi Ubah in the preliminary round of the Confederation Cup on Sunday after making their return on the continental scene for the first time in 15 years.
Tamen Medrano received a pinpoint pass from Isaac Loute to strike the winner for the home team in the 87th minute.
The Nigerians earned their win after bombarding Masry's goal throughout the match, with keeper Ahmed Boska producing some superb saves.
Masry, who finished fourth in the Egyptian Premier League last season, hope to build their momentum in Africa in their third participation in the continental competition.
The Port-Said based side reached the semi-finals of the 1999 CAF winners' Cup and the 2002 CAF Cup before both tournaments merged in the Confederation Cup in 2004.
Masry, who are led by former Egypt striker Hossam Hassan, will host the return leg next Sunday.
