Ahly will begin their group stage campain in the Confederation of African Football Champions (CAF) League on 13 May when they meet Zambia's Zanaco at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium, the club's football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz announced on Friday.

"Ahly have informed the CAF ahead of the game's date and changed the game's venue from El-Salam stadium in Cairo to Alexandria's Borg El-Arab," read a statement on the club's official website.

Cairo giants Ahly were drawn in Group D of the CAF Champions League alongside Morocco's Wydad Athletic Club, Cameroon's Coton Sport and Zambia's Zanaco in Wednesday's draw, which was held at the confederation's headquarters in Cairo.

The record holders of eight Champions League trophies, Ahly sealed their place in the last-16 group stage following a 1-0 win on aggregate over South Africa's Bidvest Wits in late March.

Ahly's executive director Sherin Shams said that management have asked the interior ministry to raise the number of fans allowed to attend the game in Alexandria to support the team in their bid at the most prestigious continental competition.

"We're pressing for 30 thousand fans to attend the game to support the team, as we agreed to change the venue due to security reasons," Shams was quoted as saying on the club's official website.
