Egyptian League leaders Ismaily dropped two precious points in their bid to challenge Ahly for the title after being held to a 1-1 draw by Talae El-Geish at home on Tuesday.
Veteran midfielder Hosni Abd-Rabou put Ismaily ahead after converting a penalty in the 29th minute but their celebrations were short-lived as El-Geish equalised two minutes later, thanks to a far-post header from striker Salah Amin.
Missing a reliable striker in suspended Colombian striker Diego Calderon, Ismaily failed to make their dominance count against a well-organized Geish defense.
Ismaily are on top of the table with 31 points, four ahead of second-placed Masry who have 27 and five clear of third-placed Ahly who have three matches in hands.
Ismaily won the last of their three league titles in 2002 after a nail-biting race with arch foes Ahly.
