After beating Tanta 2-1 in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday, Zamalek coach Ehab Galal said the victory is a very important step on the road back to the Cairo team's former winning ways.

"Zamalek missed out on a great victory over Tanta, because our players missed several chances to score during the game," Ehab Galal told reporters after the match.

Galal earned his second win in six games after beating lowly Tanta 2-1 in the Egyptian league at Cairo Stadium on Sunday.

Following a defeat to Masry and a goalless draw with Enppi, Zamalek needed to return to their usual good form -- and they managed just that, thanks to two first-half goals from Emad Fathi and Nana Poku.

"This victory is important for the team, as well as helping us to return to our winning ways and advancing our position in the team rankings," Galal said.

However, Tanta managed to close the gap following a late spell of pressure on Zamalek, with Tunisian winger Seifeddine Jaziri scoring just two minutes from the end of the first half.

"The pressure on our players allowed the opponents to get back into the game, but the Whites finally managed to secure the victory," the Zamalek coach added.

The Cairo giants climbed to fourth position on 36 points, two adrift of third-placed Masry who meet Maqassa on Monday.
