Irrepressible Ahly are just one point away from securing a third straight Egyptian Premier League title after an early goal gave them a 1-0 victory over Enppi at Cairo's Petrosport Stadium on Sunday.

Central defender Ayman Ashraf struck as early as the third minute as Ahly chalked up a 15th consecutive win which put them within touching distance of a record-extending 40th league triumph.

Should fourth-placed Masry, who have two matches in hand, fail to beat El-Entag El-Harby on Monday, Ahly will be crowned champions with six matches to spare without kicking a ball.

The Red Devils are on top of the table with 75 points, a staggering 22 points ahead of second-placed Ismaily.

Ahly took a third-minute lead against Enppi when Ashraf side-footed home a corner after shaking off his marker as his side looked on course for a routine victory.

Enppi briefly threatened on 19 minutes when striker Arafa El-Sayed got ahead of central defender Saad Samir to head just wide of the post but Ahly quickly re-stamped their authority on the match.

Ahly displayed their trademark free-flowing football and South African winger Phakamani Mahlambi, who made a rare start, wasted two clear-cut chances either side of the interval.

On the half-hour mark, he broke clear after superbly nutmegging his challenger but could only shoot straight at the keeper with the goal at his mercy.

He was also unlucky to double Ahly's lead after the break when he was found unmarked by a brilliant flick from in-form Moroccan striker Walid Azaro, only to hit the side netting with a low shot from inside the area.
