Newly-crowned league champions Ahly labored to beat a relegation-threatened Tanta side 2-1 at Cairo Stadium on Monday.
A first-half strike from Junior Ajayi was followed by another goal from substitute Marwan Mohsen late in the second half.
Tanta, however, opted not to leave the game without scoring, with Mohamed Gaber finding the back of the net in the first minute of stoppage time.
Having already secured the title with weeks to spare, Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry elected to make some changes to his lineup, with keeper Ali Lotfi and midfielder Akram Tawfik starting.
Ahly have now 78 points on top of the table, while Tanta are third from bottom with 26.
Ahly took the lead through Ajayi when an excellent through ball from Mido Gaber was latched onto by the Nigerian forward, who struck past the keeper on the hour mark.
Substitute Mohsen then added the second after coming on in the second half with just four minutes left, receiving Sabri Rahil's cross from the left before turning and beating the keeper with a powerful strike.
Tanta then pulled one back through Gaber when he volleyed home from inside the area after Ahly were guilty of squandering some clear-cut chances.
