Ahly 's long-time striker and Egypt international player Emad Meteb, who has just ended a period on loan to Saudi side Al-Taawoun, announced his retirement from the pitch at the age of 35 on Tuesday.

Meteb revealed in that he has signed a contract to work as a football TV analyst with ON SPORT.

"I decided to retire from playing football and joined the studio of ONtv," he told the channel on Monday during a lengthy interview.

Meteb is ending a glittering career with the Cairo giants Ahly. During the interview he recalled many memories of his time in the club he joined first at the age of 13.

However, he blamed former Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry for his decision.

"All my life is football. All my life is in Ahly club. El-Badry is the main reason why I quit playing. He made me waste two very precious years of my career. He neither allowed me to play, nor let me go," Meteb explained.

Meteb was a fans' hero for years due to the famous last-minute score he achieved during his first-team debut with Ahly in 2003.

He led the club to a host of titles, including eight Egyptian Premier League titles and three in the Champions League.

He played a bit-part role with the club for the last two seasons after struggling for form, having fallen down the pecking order at Ahly.

In January this year, Meteb joined Saudi Arabia's Al-Taawoun on a six-month loan, but failed to score any goals.

Meteb was also a key player for Egypt, scoring 25 goals in 61 appearances and leading them to three straight African Nations Cup titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

However, Egypt's last coach Hector Cuper did not include the striker in the Russia World Cup squad.
