Ahly midfielder Amr El-Sulaya will miss Monday's match against Lebanese side Nejmeh in the Arab Championship opener, the Egyptian champions announced on Saturday.
The Cairo giants will host Nejmeh at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium in the 32nd round of the Arab Championship amid the presence of 10,000 fans.
"El-Sulaya has not recovered from the hamstring injury that he picked up in the last league match against Masry," read a statement on Ahly's official website.
"We won't risk the player as we don't want to aggravate his injury. We will prepare him for the next matches," the statement added.
The 29-year-old was obliged to depart the pitch during Tuesday's 2-0 win over Masry after picking up a muscular strain.
After Monday's test against Nejmeh, Ahly will face Tunisian giants Esperance on Friday in the fifth round of the African Champions League group stage.
