Zamalek claimed their second successive win in the Egyptian League this season after defeating Maqassa 1-0 at El-Geish stadium in Suez on Thursday thanks to Congolese striker Kabongo Kasongo who scored the winner in the 6th minute of the game.
The international striker met a cross from a corner with a nice header to strike home, giving his side an early lead.
Three minutes later, winger Mahmoud 'Kahraba' Abdel-Moneim squandered a golden chance to make it 2-0 when he failed to control the ball few meters from the empty net.
Maqasaa winger Paulin Voavy was close on scoring the equaliser in the 18th minute but Zamalek's keeper Mahmoud 'Gennesh' Abdel-Rehim collected the ball before him.
The hosts intensified their attacks and Jhon Antwi met a pinpoint cross from Mohamed Ramadan with a nice header but his effort was denied by the bar in the 32nd minute.
Antwi sent another nice header eight minutes later but Gennesh blocked the ball with a heroic save.
Gennesh came again to the rescue for Zamalek when he blocked Voavy's close range shot just before the break.
The second half saw a poor performance from both sides especially from Maqassa players who were spent physically.
Zamalek controlled the game in the second Half and made several counter-attacks but failed to double the score.
In the dying minutes, Maqassa's Ghanaian striker was sent off after receiving a direct red card.
After tonight's win, Zamalek climbed the top of the league table with seven points from three games.
