Ahly have been hit with a two-match fans ban and fined by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after an offensive behavior from their fans during a Champions league match a week ago.

"It was reported to the disciplinary committee that Ahly spectators had unsporting and offensive behavior during match no. 142 played in the frame of CL 2018," reads a statement by CAF via twitter.

Thousands of Ahly fans have made abusive chants towards rivals officials at the stadium during their team's 4-0 African Champions League win over Guinea's Horoya AC last Saturday.

"Ahly SC has contravened article 83.1, 85, 131,131.2 and 132.1, and has further failed to comply with the strict provisions contained in article 151," the CAF statement explained.

 "As a result of the above, Ahly is found guilty and sanctioned in terms of article 83.2 read toghther with article 151.1. Ahly will play the next two official senior team matches behind closed doors, without spectators. However this provision is suspended for the remainder of the 2018 season on condition that Ahly isn't found guilty of a similar offence during this period."

The statement concluded  that the club will be fined the sum of $20,000.

Despite the sanctions, Ahly fans will be able to attend the next African Champions League test against Algeria's ES Setif on 2 October, as the crowd ban will be on hold. The Reds will host their Algerian counterparts in the first leg of the prestigious tournament semi-finals. The return match will be played in Algeria 23 October.

Ahly currently stands in second place in the Egyptian league with 15 points from seven matches, two points behind leaders Zamalek, who have played one match more.
