On-loan Huddersfield winger Ramadan Sobhi has been included on Thursday in Ahly’s 19-man squad for Friday’s crucial clash against Pyramids FC.

The 21-year-old has rejoined his boyhood club last week seeking regular football after falling out of favor in his Premier League side.

Sobhi, a quick and trickster dribbler who left Ahly in 2016 to join Stoke City then Hudderfield town a season later, hopes to boost the chances of his team, which has been struggling recently.

The Red Devils lost the African Champions League final and have been eliminated from the Arab Champions Cup in a disastrous November.

Sobhi isn’t the only new signing in Ahly’s squad for the Pyramids game.

Uruguayan coach Martin Lasarte, who has officially been in charge since 28 December, has included all the January signings in his first-ever Ahly team.

Angolan winger Geraldo, midfielder Mohamed Mahmoud and left-back Mahmoud Wahid have also made the cut.

Defender Salif Coulibaly makes his return to the team to boost the backline, as he is the only natural central defender and will expectedly be partnered with fullbacks Ayman Ashraf or Mohamed Hani, who has been deployed in this role due to shortage.

Inspirational playmaker Walid Soliman has also been included in the squad after missing the past few games due to injury.

The defending champions are now sixth on the league table with 24 points, 14 behind leaders Zamalek, but they still have three games in hand.

The game against Pyramids FC, the new rising power in Egyptian football, is seen as a crucial corner in the title race as it could allow Ahly to bounce back or drop even lower.
