Ahly have completed the signing of winger Hussein El-Shahat from UAE club Al Ain as they continue to bolster their squad to rescue a faltering season, the club announced on Sunday.

In a brief statement on their official website, the Red Devils said they struck a deal with Al Ain to sign El-Shahat but neither disclosed the length of the contract nor the transfer fee.

Local reports said Ahly will pay up to $5 million to land El-Shahat, which would be a club record fee.

The 26-year-old took part in 12 matches in the UAE league this season, scoring six goals and providing four assists.

He also shone during Al Ain's surprise run to the Club World Cup final last month, scoring one goal and producing some superb displays.

He was unlucky not to score in the 4-1 final defeat by European champions Real Madrid as he had a shot cleared off the line by Sergio Ramos after a fine individual effort.

El-Shahat left Egypt's Maqasa to join Al Ain in July 2018 in a deal estimated at $3 million.

He is Ahly's fifth January signing following the arrival of Huddersfield winger Ramadan Sobhi (on loan), Maqassa left-back Mahmoud Wahid, Wadi Degla midfielder Mohamed Mahmoud and Angolan winger Geraldo.

Ahly lie sixth in the Egyptian league table with 24 points, but they still have three games in hand.

They are seeking to arrest a slump in form that saw them suffer three defeats and draw as many games in their opening 13 matches.
