Ittihad of Alexandria (Al-Ahram)
Egyptian side Ittihad of Alexandria were eliminated from the Zayed Cup on Monday after being held to a goalless draw by Saudi side Al-Hilal in the second leg of the competition's quarters at Borg El-Arab stadium.
The club’s adventure in the regional competition had seen them overcome defending Champions Esperance de Tunis and Cairo giants Zamalek.
The Alexandria-based club lost the first leg 3-0 in Riyadh earlier this month, to exit the competition with a 3-0 loss on aggregate.
The team managed to create many goal-scoring opportunities, but they failed to score due to the fine performance of Al-Hilal keeper Abdullah Al-Muaiouf.
Ittihad were the only remaining Egyptian side in the regional competition as Ahly, Zamalek and Ismaily had all been eliminated in the previous round.
Al-Hilal will join Sudanese side El-Merrikh and Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel in the semis.
