The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has played down reports that it intends to cancel the Premier League relegation this season following demands from some clubs.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the EFA said, “The board did not discuss nor is it considering anything contrary to the current regulations of the competition.
“The competition shall end according to the same regulations that were agreed upon by all participating clubs to preserve the legitimacy and value of the competition domestically and continentally,” the statement concluded.
Several clubs are demanding to cancel this season’s relegation, citing “irregularities” in the competition.
Smouha president Farag Amer has revealed that eight clubs are preparing to file an official demand to the EFA.
With three rounds to go, Nogoom and Dakhleya are already relegated while more than five other clubs are fighting to escape from the third spot that will go down to the second tier.
