Ahly announced on Thursday that they have imposed a "hefty fine" on the team's Moroccan striker Walid Azaro after the player expressed his displeasure over coach's decision to drop him from the squad that defeated Tanta 5-0 in a league game on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old missed Ahly's three previous games as he was benched against Maqassa and FC Masr before being dropped from the squad against Tanta.
Azaro's future with Ahly remains unclear as several reports suggested that the club intends to release him, especially after the arrival of Senegalese striker Aliou Badji.
The Cairo giants completed Badji's signing on Thursday from Austria's Rapid Vienna on a contract that will link the player with club until the summer of 2024.
With five foreign players already on their squad, Ahly will have to offload one of them to make room for the Senegalese striker.
Sources have said that Ahly will offload Azaro after he failed to convince coach Rene Weiler after scoring four goals in 11 appearances this season, but stressing that there is no official decision yet.
Azaro, who joined Ahly from Moroccan side Difaa El-Jadida in the summer of 2017, scored 37 goals in 83 games in all competitions.
