Ahly's goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi is suffering from a muscular strain after being injured in Sunday's 1-0 league win over Arab Contractors.

The team's medical staff will be trying to prepare him for the anticipated match against Morocco's Wydad later in October, the club announced on Monday.

"Scans revealed on Monday morning that Shennawi is suffering from a Adductor strain," Ahly's football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz revealed in a statement via its official website.

The main downside to Ahly's win was an injury in-form keeper El-Shennawi picked up in the first half which saw him make way for Ali Lotfi, less than two weeks before the team's mouthwatering clash against Morocco's Wydad in the African Champions League semifinal.

"The medical staff devised a rehabilitation program to prepare the player for Wydad match," Abdel-Hafiz explained.

"El-Shennawi will undergo physical therapy sessions for some days, before starting a physical program without rushing his return to ensure having him fully fit ahead of the match in Morroco," he added.

Ahly will be hosted by Wydad on 17 October in the semi final's first leg, before playing the return match in Cairo six days later.

Ahly, who were crowned league champions with six rounds to spare last month, have 82 points with three matches remaining. The hopes of fourth-placed Contractors to earn a runners-up spot almost ended as they lie nine points behind second-placed Zamalek.
