The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given the greenlight for fans to attend the anticipated Champions League final between Zamalek and Ahly on Friday, according to Egyptian football Association (EFA) board member Mohamed Fadl.

The Cairo giants are supposed to meet on 27 November at Cairo’s International Stadium in the prestigious tournament final, but doubts rose in recent hours over the fans’ attendance criteria amid the coronavirus crisis.

“We contacted CAF regarding fans’ attendance and we got the official approval today,” Fadl told a local TV channel late on Sunday.

“CAF agreed to allow from 5,000 to 10,000 supporters to attend in the stands amid applying all precautionary measures.

“Security authorities will make the final decision within 48 hours and if we got the approval work will start immediately to arrange stadium's entries and ensure intervals between supporters,” he added.

Ahly reached the final after beating Morocco's Wydad 5-1 on aggregate, while Zamalek qualified following victory over another Casablanca-based team, Raja, with a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Ahly are eyeing a record-extending ninth Champions League title and their first since 2013, while Zamalek are seeking to win the coveted prize for the first time since their fifth triumph in 2002.
